George Little Cline was born June 26, 1795, in Virginia, the second son of John C. Cline and Mary Brown.
The John Cline family moved from Virginia to Ohio in 1805, settling in Washington County. In 1813, Monroe County was formed from that area of Washington County and a portion of Guernsey and Belmont Counties.
George married his first cousin, Nancy C. Cline, on February 16, 1816, in Monroe County. Nancy Cline was born November 5, 1798, in Ohio, the daughter of John Cline's brother, Joseph G. Cline, and Sarah Linn.
The 1850 Monroe County, Ohio census, Perry Township, shows George L. Cline, 55, a farmer, owned real estate valued at $1500; Nancy, 51; Sarah, 32; Henry, 16; Amelia, 14; and David, 9 years old. Living next door is Nancy Joy, 74, born in Virginia; Martin Cline, 10; Leonard Cline, 9; Madarna Cline, 3; and Philip Cline, 3. Living next door to Nancy Joy and the Cline children is George's son Peter Cline and family. Next door to Peter is George's brother, John Cline and wife Elvira McVey.
The 1860 Monroe County census, Benton Township, shows George Cline, 64, a farmer, $1800 real property, $500 personal property; Nancy, 61; David, 19, a farmer, Madarna, 12 and Philip, 11 years old. We are unsure how Madarna and Philip are related.
George died September 25, 1875, at Jericho in Monroe County, Ohio. He is buried in the Jericho Cemetery.
