My own research begins with Peter Knoffsinger Cline, who was born October 25, 1824, in Monroe County, Ohio, the son of George L. Cline and Nancy C. Cline.
Peter Cline married Dorcas Brown about 1847, in Ohio. Dorcas was born about 1830, in Ohio according to census records.
The 1850 Monroe County, Ohio census shows Peter's family living near his parents in Perry Township. The census shows Peter Cline, 25, farmer; Dorcus, 22; Ethelinda, 2; and Josiah, 3 months old.
The 1860 Monroe County census, Benton Township, shows Peter Cline, 34, a farmer, $60 personal property; Dorcas, 30; Etholinda, 12; Josiah, 10; Vincent, 8; Emelia, 6; Nancy, 4; and Sally, 1 year old.
Between about 1865 and 1868, Peter moved his family to Spencer County, Indiana.
The 1870 Spencer County, Indiana census, Grass Township, shows Peter Kline, 50, a farmer, $400 personal property; Dorcus, 40; Josiah, 20, a farm laborer; Vincent, 18, a farm laborer; Amelia, 16; Nancy, 14; Elizabeth, 8; and Warren D., 5 months old, born in December. Living with the family is Lafayett Brown, 7, born in Ohio.
The 1880 Spencer County census, Huff Township, shows Peter Cline, 61, farm laborer; Dorcas, wife, 51, father and mother both born in Pennsylvania; Elizabeth, 16; Josiah, 31; and Warren B., 11 years old. Living next door is their daughter Amelia and William Paceley and family.
Some researchers show that Dorcas died October 18, 1896.
