George S. Horton was born November 18, 1822, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the son of Isaac Horton, Jr. and Mary "Polly" Watts.
George married Virginia Jane Pigg, in Tennessee. Virginia Jane Pigg was born December 9, 1821, in Tennessee, the daughter of John Pigg and Sarah Cate Berry.
George and Virginia moved their family to Arkansas about 1851, with the other Horton and related families. They settled in Searcy County. George died January 27, 1856, in Searcy County and is buried in Bear Creek Cemetery (sometimes called the Cooper Cemetery). Virginia died October 17, 1910, in Searcy County.
