George Willis Lay was born June 26, 1854, in Scott County, Tennessee, the son of James Arthur Lay and Charlotte Horton.
George married Mary Caroline Columbia Catherine Horton on August 11, 1876, at Waynesboro, in Wayne County, Tennessee. Mary Caroline Horton was born January 9, 1858, in Wayne County, the daughter of George Willis "Buckie" Horton and Malinda Caroline Horton.
George and Mary moved to Searcy County, Arkansas in late 1881 or early 1882.
George died April 26, 1926, in Searcy County. Mary died at Canaan, in Searcy County, on February 14, 1932.
