George Willis "Buckie" Horton was born July 22, 1829, in Tennessee, the son of William Horton and America Cheek.
Buckie married Hannah E. Martin about 1849, in Tennessee. Hannah died about 1857, in Tennessee. She and Buckie had six children.
Buckie married Malinda Caroline Horton on April 25, 1857, in Wayne County, Tennessee. Malinda Caroline Horton was born January 1, 1836, in Wayne County, the daughter of Nathaniel Horton and Malinda Atkinson. She was the granddaughter of Isaac Horton and Hannah Farris. She and Buckie were first cousins.
Buckie served in Co. B, 2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry in the Civil War. He drove a team of mules and pulled a cannon. He was discharged October 17, 1865.
The 1870 Wayne County, Tennessee census, 8th Civil District, shows G. W. Horton, 41, a farmer with $1000 real property and $800 personal property; Malinda C., 34; William M., 17, a farm laborer; Isaac J., 15; Hannah E., 14; Mary C. C. C., 10; George J. R., 7; Anderson S., 5; Andrew W., 4; Rachel M., 3; and Sarah J., 1 year old. Living with the family was Buckie's mother, America Cheek Horton, age 67, with real property valued at $500.
The 1880 Wayne County census shows the family living in the 8th District. Six children are listed with them on that census. America Horton is not listed with the family. We believe she died prior to 1880.
George Willis moved his family to Searcy County, Arkansas, about 1881. They appear on the 1900 Searcy County census.
Malinda Caroline died at Canaan, in Searcy County, on July 13, 1907. Buckie died in Searcy County on July 13, 1914.
