Hezekiah Abel was born 1810, in Wythe County, Virginia. He was the eldest of nine children born to Jonathan Abel and Catherine Cleaver.
Hezekiah's family moved to Greene County, Tennessee prior to 1830. Hezekiah appears with his family as a male age 15-20 on the 1830 Greene County census.
Hezekiah married Mary M. Thornburg on August 12, 1834, in Greene County. Mary Thornburg was born about 1815, in North Carolina. She was the daughter of Joel Thornburg and Dianna Pendry.
The 1840 Greene County census shows Hezekiah Abel, a male 30-40; two males under 5; one female (Mary) 20-30; and one female under 5 years of age.
The 1850 Greene County census shows Hezekiah, 42, a blacksmith; Mary, 42; Catherine, 15; Jonathan, 13; Moses, 11; Susannah, 9; Emelia, 7; Joel, 4; and Joseph, 2 years old. All the children were shown born in Tennessee. Hezekiah was living near his father at the time.
By 1860, Hezekiah's family was living in Cocke County, Tennessee.
The 1860 Cocke County census shows Hezakiah Able, 52, a farmer, $500 real property, $258 personal property; Mary M., 45; Joel, 14; Joseph, 13; and Moses, 21, a laborer. Living beside them was their son Jonathan Ables, 23, farmer, $160 real property, $104 personal property; Sophina, 22, NC; Mary M., 1 month; and (Sophina's mother) Lucinda Green, 45, NC.
The 1870 Cocke County census shows Hezekiah Able, 67, $200 real property, $100 personal property; Mary M., 68; Jonathan, 11, laborer on farm; Moses, 9; and Joel A, 8 years old. We believe Jonathan, Moses, and Joel were children of Hezekiah's son Jonathan.
Prior to 1880, Hezekiah moved his family to Texas.
The 1880 Travis County, Texas, census shows Hezekiah Able, 72, a farmer; Mary, 71, wife; and Moses Green, 19, grandson, a farmer.
Hezekiah died in Burnett County, Texas in 1897. Mary died there in 1898.

We have been told their children included: (1) Mary Green, b. 1854; (2) Joseph Green, b. 1857; (3) Mahulda Green, b. 1859; (4) Moses Green, b. Dec 1861, TN; and (5) Joel A. Green, b. 1862
2. Jonathan Abel, b. abt 1837, Greene Co, TN; probably d. bef 1870; m. Sophina Green abt 1858, TN. Sophia Green was b. abt 1838, in NC; probably d. bef 1870. She was the daughter of George Green and Lucinda Messer. (Sophina's brother Jackson Marion Green married Jonathan's sister Mary Catharine Abel.) The 1860 Cocke Co, TN, census shows Jonathan, Sophina and their one-month old daughter, Mary, living beside his parents. Sophina's mother, Lucinda Green, 45, b. NC, was living with them. Census shows Jonathan and Sophina had a daughter, Mary M. Abel, b. abt 1859, TN; probably d. bef 1870. We believe their children may have also included: Jonathan Abel, b. abt 1860, TN; Moses Abel, b. abt 1862, TN and Joel A. Abel, b. abt 1863, TN.

4. Susannah Abel, b. July 22, 1842, Greene Co, TN; d. Oct 9, 1902, Burnet Co, TX; m. Abraham Ellison abt 1863, in TN. The family moved to TX abt 1872. Children included: (1) Hezekiah Ellison, b.
