James F. Bridgman was born November 22, 1851, in Wayne County, Kentucky, the son of William Calvin Bridgman and Matilda Prock.
James appears on the 1860 and 1870 Wayne County census with his parents and siblings.
James married Luverna Carter about 1871, in Wayne County, Kentucky. Luverna Carter was born November 25, 1850, in Kentucky, the daughter of Edmon B. Carter and Cyrena Evaline Bean.
Edmon Carter was born June 24, 1824, in Tennessee and died between 1881 and 1900. He married Evaline Bean in 1846, in Tennessee. Evaline Bean was born 1822, in Tennessee and died 1871-1879, in Kentucky. They appear on the 1850 Wayne County, Kentucky; 1860 Clinton County, Kentucky and 1870 Fentress County, Tennessee ceusus. Edmon married Drucilla ____ prior to 1880. Drucilla was born July 1829, in Kentucky. Edmon and Drucilla appear on the 1880 Metcalfe County, Kentucky census. Drucilla appears on the 1900 Shelby County, Iowa census living with her niece Mary E. Rank and family. Edmon and Evaline's children included: (1) James Earl Carter, b. 1847; m. Anna Eliza Bridgman; (2) William Russell Carter, b. 1848; (3) Luverna Carter, b. 1850; (4) Elizabeth "Bettie" Carter, b. 1852; m. (unknown), then m. William O. Bridgman (2nd wife); (5) Mary F. Carter, b. 1854; m. William O. Bridgman (1st wife); (6) Darcas Carter, b. 1858; (7) Malissa Jane Carter, b. 1859 and (8) Sarah E. Carter, b. 1862.
The 1880 Hart County, Kentucky census shows James Bridgman, 28, farmer; Louverna, 29, wife; Texas, 8, daughter; Elizebeth, 3, daughter and Nettie F., 1, daughter. Living with the family was Elvina Carter, 58, mother-in-law.
Luverna died April 6, 1896, in Kentucky. James and Luverna had five children.
James was named in his father's will, dated August 5, 1896.
James married Permelia Ethel Rednour on November 5, 1897, in Wayne County, Kentucky. Ethel was born June 1874, in Kentucky, the daughter of Joel Rednour (b. 1844, TN; d. 1909, Wayne Co, KY) and Hannah Rains (b. 1846, KY; d. 1896, Wayne Co, KY). Permelia was married prior to her marriage to James. We do not believe she had children from that union.
The 1900 Wayne County census shows James Bridgman, born Nov 1851, 48, married 3 years, a farmer who owned his farm; Ethel, wife, born June 1874, 25, had given birth to 1 child; 1 child still living; George C., son, born Nov 1898, 1; Elizabeth, daughter, born Jan 1877, 23; Florence, daughter, born Nov 1878, 21; Nancy C., daughter, born Dec 1881, 18; Otho M., son, born Oct 1888, 11 and Maggie, daughter, born Aug 1893, 6 years old. Living with the family at that time was Clifton Carter, lodger, born Nov 1888, 11, born in Kentucky.
The 1910 Clinton County, Kentucky census shows Jame Bridgman, 61, married 2 times, married 12 years, a farmer; Ethel, wife, 35, married 2 times, had given birth to 3 children, 3 children were still living; Maggie, daughter, 15; George, son, 11; Austin, son, 9 and Wayne, son, 4 years old.
The 1920 Wayne County, Kentucky census shows James Bridgman, 72, farmer; Ethel, wife, 42; George C., son, 18, farm laborer; Auston, son, 16, farm laborer and Wayne, son, 13 years old.
James died April 18, 1928, in Wayne County.
