Robert Jasper "Jap" Cypert was born January 10, 1822, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the son of Jesse Newton Cypert and Jemima Worthen.
Jap married Mary Bundy on September 12, 1844, in Wayne County. Mary Bundy was born in Wayne County, the daughter of John Bundy and Carrie White.
Jap served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was a farmer.
The 1870 Wayne County, Tennessee census, 7th Civil District, shows R. J. Cypert, 48, a farmer with $10,000 real property and $5000 personal property; Mary, 43; F. A. (Felicia Ann), 18; Robert J., Jr., 16; and F. M. (Millard Filmore), 14.
Mary died in Wayne County. Jap then married Mrs. Lydia (Youngblood) Horton on June 30, 1872, in Wayne County. Lydia Youngblood Horton was the widow of James Henry Horton, who died a POW in the Civil War. Lydia had children from her first marriage, but Jap and Lydia had no children together.
Jap died July 9, 1892, at Martin Mills, in Wayne County. He is buried in the Cypert-Copeland Cemetery on Indian Creek in Wayne County.
