John C. Cline was born October 27, 1772, in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, the son of George Cline and Susanah Buck.
John married Mary Brown about 1791, in Ohio County, Virginia (now West Virginia). Mary Brown was born about 1773, in Virginia.
The book, "History of Monroe County, Ohio", published in 1882 by H. H. Hardesty and Company contains some information on John Cline. The book indicates that John was living in Virginia in 1804 but purchased land in Washington Township of Monroe County in 1805, at which time he moved his family to the area. The first grist mill was said to have been built by John Cline in 1810 at the mouth of Big Lick Run. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1816 and rebuilt in 1817, along with a saw mill. John Cline was also a farmer.
Mary died about 1825, at Jericho in Monroe County.
In 1830, John married Sarah Williamson, who was born about 1797, in Virginia.
The 1850 Monroe County census shows John living in Perry Township. The census shows John Cline, Sr., 78, a farmer, born in Pennsylvania, owned real property valued at $1000 and Sarah, 55, born in Virginia. Living with them was Joseph Kimble, 14, born in Ohio; and Margaret Lamberson, 12, born in Pennsylvania.
John Cline died May 25, 1859, at Jericho in Monroe County, Ohio. He is buried in the Jericho Cemetery.
