James Wayne Cypert

James Wayne Cypert was born about 1829, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the son of John William Cypert and Nancy Anderson.

James married Mary Jane Henry about 1848, probably in Tennessee. Mary Jane Henry was born about 1831 in Tennessee according to census records.

Census records indicate that James moved his family from Tennessee to Missouri around 1850, then on to Arkansas prior to about 1853.

The 1860 Searcy County, Arkansas census, Campbell Township, shows J. W. Cypert, 30, a farmer, $600 personal property, $250 real property, born in Tennessee; Jane, 27, born in Tennessee; William, 11, born in Tennessee; Rachel, 9, born in Missouri; Jane, 7, born in Arkansas; Robert, 5, born in Arkansas; Belinda, 3, born in Arkansas; and Sarah, 6 months, born in Arkansas.   Shortly before 1870, James moved his family from Campbell Township to Bear Creek Township. Their son William, who married about 1868, settled near his parents in Bear Creek Township near Marshall. Their daughter Rachel, who married Peter Horton's son Robert about 1868, settled with her husband in Campbell Township near Leslie.

The 1870 Searcy County census, Bear Creek Township, shows James W. Cypert, 40, a farmer, $1500 personal property, $600 real property; Mary J., 38; Martha J., 17; Robert H., 15; Malinda, 13; and Thomas J., 2 years old. James and Jane's daughter, Rachel Horton, died between about October 1874 and 1877. Rachel gave birth to a child in October 1874, and we believe she may have died soon afterward from childbirth complications. Her husband, Robert Perry Horton, married again around 1877.
