Robert Perry Horton was born about 1846, in Tennessee, the son of Peter Henderson Horton and Martha (last name unknown).
The 1850 Wayne County, Tennessee census shows Robert Perry, age 4, living with his parents and siblings in the 8th Civil District. Robert's father is listed as a hatter on the census.
The family moved to Arkansas around 1851, probably at the same time that many other Horton and associated families moved from Tennessee. They all settled in Searcy County, Arkansas.
The 1860 Searcy County census shows 13 year old Robert living with his parents and siblings in Campbell Township near Leslie. Living nearby was the family of James Wayne Cypert. James Cypert's 9 year old daughter Rachel, born in Missouri, is listed on the census with her family.
Robert Perry married Rachel M. Cypert about 1868, in Searcy County. Rachel Cypert was born about 1851, in Missouri, the daughter of James Wayne Cypert and Mary Jane Henry.
The 1870 Searcy County census, Campbell Township, shows Robert P. Horton, 22, $150 real property, born in Tennessee, a farmer; Rachel M., 17, born in Missouri; and Allis E., 3 months old, born in Arkansas. Living with the family was Melvina Hollis, 16, born in Arkansas.
Rachel gave birth to their fourth child in October 1874. It is believed she died soon afterward from complications from childbirth.
Robert married Artiemissie "Artie" Looper about 1877. Artie Looper was born August 27, 1862, in Searcy County.
The 1880 Searcy County census, Bear Creek Township, shows Robert Horton, 33; Artemise, wife, 17; Mary, daughter, 10; James, son, 7; Irena, daughter, 1; and Arazonia, daughter, 5 months old. Robert's son Eugene Horton, age 5, is listed on the 1880 Baxter County, Arkansas census living with his grandparents James W. and Mary Jane Cypert and their son Thomas in Whiteville Township.
Robert died May 7, 1885, in Searcy County.
The 1900 Baxter County census, Whiteville Township, shows Robert and Rachel's children, James H. Horton, 27, born November 1872, in Arkansas, a farmer and Eugene Horton, 25, born October 1874, in Arkansas, a teacher, living with their grandparents James W. and Mary Jane Cypert.
