My 5th great grandfather, Joseph Endicott III, was born June 8, 1738, at Mt. Holly, near Northampton, in Burlington County, New Jersey, the son of Joseph Endicott, Jr. and Anne Gillam.
Little is known about Joseph. We know he was about ten years old when his father died. We know his father left a will in which he instructed his executors to sell his plantation and use the money for his debts......the residue to go to his beloved wife, Ann Endecott, and instructed his wife to "bring up my children and I advise said wife that she put out my children to trades at suitable age, I having no estate to leave them". We can only assume that Joseph was "put out" to learn a trade.
We know Joseph married my 5th great grandmother, (name unknown), prior to 1774. We know he was in North Carolina prior to 1774. At least three children were born to Joseph in North Carolina. Records indicate he was probably in or near Stokes County in 1792, as his son married there in January 1792.
We believe Joseph's children migrated to Kentucky prior to 1797. We do not know if Joseph was with them, or if he died prior to that time. Joseph's son had a son born in 1797, in Kentucky. Joseph's daughter Eunice married in Bourbon County, Kentucky in November 1801. Her brother Joseph signed the bond for her to marry as she was under age at the time. If their father was still living, we wonder why he did not sign the bond.
