Living next door is Alfred Hagan, 34, a saddler, born in Kentucky; wife E., 28, born in Tennessee; son T., 13, born in Tennessee; son H., 11, born in Tennessee; son R., 9, born in Tennessee; son M., 6, born in Kentucky; son J., 4, born in Kentucky and son J. 2, born in Kentucky. Living in the same area was Robert Hagan, 38, farmer, born in Kentucky; wife E., 35, born in Kentucky; son J. T., 16, born in Kentucky; son J. H., 15, born in Kentucky; daughter L. S., 13, born in Kentucky; daughter S. T., 6, born in Kentucky; and son T., 11 months, born in Kentucky. At this time we believe this is our John Hagens and some of his family.

John married (second) Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Martin on April 21, 1855, in Spencer County, Indiana. Mary Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) was born about 1830, in Indiana. She first married John Martin prior to 1848. Elizabeth and John had at least one child, Mary Jane Martin, born December 24, 1848, in Indiana. We believe they also had a son, Thomas H. Martin, born about 1848, in Indiana, but this has not been documented.

The census shows John Hagan, 58, farmer, born in Kentucky; Elizabeth, 40, born in Indiana; William P., 18, born in Indiana; Francis M., 8, born in Indiana; and John W., 6, born in Indiana. Living next door is Thomas H. Martin, age 20, born in Indiana and his wife Rhoda M., age 27, born in Indiana. We believe Thomas was the son of Elizabeth and John Martin. Living nearby is Elizabeth's daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and James A. Wren.
The 1880 Spencer County, Indiana, Luce Township census, page 166A, shows Elizabeth Hagan, 45, head of household, born in Indiana; Frank Hagan, 18, born in Indiana; John Hagan, 16, born in Indiana and Jefferson Hagan, 9, born in Indiana. We assume that John Hagan had died between 1870 and 1880.
