Sarah Opal Salina Horton was born June 4, 1910, in Pope County, Arkansas, the daughter of Will Horton and Effie Harmon.
Opal married Harry Hill on August 24, 1929, in Conway County, Arkansas. Harry Hill was born May 24, 1902, in Tennessee, the son of William A. Hill and Jessie B. (last name unknown). The 1910 Shelby County, TN census shows the family living in Ward 27 of the City of Memphis. The census shows William A. Hill, 51, married 17 years, born in TN; Jessie B., wife, 35, married 17 years, had given birth to 5 children, all of them still living, born in Georgia; Allen, daughter, 15, born in TN; Leslie, daughter, 11, born in TN; Harry, son, 8, born in TN; Aubry, daughter, 5, born in TN; and Cecil, daughter, 11 months old, born in TN.
Harry's parents both died prior to 1920 and part of the children wound up in a children's home. They were eventually sent to Southern Christian Home at Morrilton, in Conway County, Arkansas. We figure the parents died during the great 1918 influenza outbreak.
Some sources say that Harry was adopted by John Sterling Sims and his wife, Sarrah M. (McNew) Sims, from Pleasant Hill, in Conway County. We do know that Harry was raised by the Sims family. Harry never used the Sims name, however. The 1920 Conway County census, Town of Center Ridge, Lick Mountain Twp. shows Jim S. Sims, 47; wife Sarrah, 43; son Willie F., 27; daughters Jennie, 24; Alice, 21; and Mary 19; and Harry Hill, son 15 years of age.
Harry and Opal appear in Lick Mountain Twp. of Conway County on the 1930 census. They were living near Opal's parents and siblings. The census shows Harry, 27, a farmer and Opal, wife, 19. The marriage ended in divorce a few years after the birth of their second child.
Opal married William Edward Cupp on March 8, 1949, at Morrilton, in Conway County. Will Cupp was born February 11, 1876. He was a widower with grown children when they married. Will and his son, Lester, were owners and operators of Cupp Wholesale at Morrilton for a number of years.
Will died December 24, 1958, and is buried beside his first wife in the Center Ridge Cemetery, at Center Ridge, in Conway County.
Harry Hill died January 12, 1974, and is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, in Conway County.
Opal died February 1, 1997, and is buried in Friendship Cemetery near Solgohachia, in Conway County.
