Rachel Emeline Woody

Rachel Emeline Woody was born April 1, 1832, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the daughter of Joseph Woody and Mary "Polly" Cypert.

Rachel married John Sidney Cromwell on December 4, 1851, in Wayne County. John Cromwell was born October 25, 1828, in Maury County, Tennessee, the son of William Fielding Cromwell and Mary Elizabeth Nancy Grimes. William Fielding Cromwell was born in Jefferson County, Kentucky, the son of Joseph Cromwell and his wife Elizabeth, who were the descendants of the Cromwells who came to America from England in 1671 and settled in Maryland and Virginia, and later moved to Kentucky. John Sidney's sister, Mary Otha Catharine Cromwell, married John English Horton.

John and Rachel settled in Wayne County to raise their family. John was a farmer.

Rachel died April 11, 1895, in Wayne County. She was the first person buried in what is now called the Cromwell Crossroads Cemetery. John married Genire Dickerson after Rachel died. John and Genire had a daughter, Fannie Alma Cromwell. John died March 22, 1920, in Wayne County.
