William Ruben "Rube" Crow was born January 28, 1855, near Cave City, in Independence County, Arkansas, the son of John Henry Crow and Sarah Jane Rollins.
Rube married W. Melissa Adaline Copeland on December 16, 1883, in Independence County. Melissa Copeland was born June 12, 1864, at Floral, in Independence County, the daughter of Jasper Copeland and Sarah Jane Shulk (Shook).
Rube and Melissa settled at Cave City for a couple of years after their marriage. About 1885 Rube moved his family to Mt. Pleasant Township of Searcy County, Arkansas, near Witts Spring. This may have been the same time that Rube's brother Jim left Independence County and moved to Searcy County. Rube purchased property near Witts Spring, which he farmed.
Rube's family appears on the 1900 Searcy County census, in Mt. Pleasant Township. Listed with Rube and Melissa are their children James V., Roselee, Nora, Martha and Mary.
Rube died October 26, 1929, at Witts Spring and is buried in the Archie Valley Cemetery, east of Tilly.
The 1930 Searcy County census, Mt. Pleasant Township, shows Malissa Crow, 65, widowed, living with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ananias Watkins. Living next door was son Virgin Crow and his family.
Melissa died November 15, 1936, at Witts Spring and is buried beside her husband.
