James Virgin Crow was born September 18, 1884, probably in Independence County, Arkansas, the son of Rube Crow and Melissa Copeland.
Virgin married Verby Dile Gunter on December 30, 1906, in Searcy County, Arkansas. Verby Gunter was born December 18, 1887, at Enid, Oklahoma, the daughter of Marion Gunter.
The 1930 Searcy County census, Mt. Pleasant Township, shows Virgen Crow, a farmer who owned his farm, 45; Virby, 43; Edard, 18, a laborer at odd jobs; Edith, 17; Oliver, 14; Priscilla, 13; Evangeline, 9; and Icy, 4 years old. Living witht he family was Marion Gunter, father-in-law, 72, widowed, born in Missouri. The census also shows that Verby was born in Missouri. Living next door was Virgin's sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ananias Watkins, and his mother Malissa Crow. Living nearby was their oldest son William Crow and his family.
Virgin died April 24, 1958, and is buried in Archie Valley Cemetery, near Tilly, Arkansas. Verby died February 13, 1959, and is buried beside her husband.
