Sarah L. E. "Sally" Horton was born April 30, 1869, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the daughter of Nathaniel H. "Than" Horton and Margaret "Peggy" Berry.
Sally was only a few months old when her father died. Sally, for some reason, appears on the 1870 Wayne County census with Mrs. R. C. Murphy and her family, who lived next door to Sally's family.
Sally married Thomas W. Estes on August 7, 1887, in Wayne County.
Thomas died January 24, 1901, in Wayne County. Sally died ten months later on October 20, 1901. They are buried in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, in Wayne County.
Thomas and Sally's three small children were raised by Sally's brother, David Wilson "Wilse" Horton and his wife Callie.
