Samuel Stooksberry

Samuel Stooksberry was born January 6, 1810, in Anderson County, Tennessee, the son of Robert "Squire" Stooksberry and Hannah Horton. Samuel was a twin to Jacob.

Samuel married Sarah "Sally" Sharp on December 15, 1846, in Campbell County, Tennessee. Sarah Sharp was born November 8, 1827, in Tennessee.

The 1850 Anderson County, Tennessee census shows Samuel Stuksbury, 39, a farmer with $700 real property, Sarah, 23; Robert, 2; and William, 13. At this time we are unsure of the identity of William.

Prior to 1860 the family moved to Union County, Tennessee. The 1860 Union County census shows Samuel Stooksbury, 50, a farmer with $2000 real property and $300 personal property; Sally, 30; Sarah, 8; Jane, 6; William, 5; Jacob, 3; and Hanner, 6 months old. Living next door was Samuel's sister Jane Robbins and her family.

The 1870 Union County census, 8th District, shows Samuel Stukesbury, 55, a farmer with $1600 real property and $1500 personal property; Sarah, 41; Robert, 19, a farm laborer; Sarah, 18; Jane, 16; William, 14; Jacob, 11; Hanner, 10; and Nancy, 7 years old. Sarah's mother, Sarah Sharp, 79, born in North Carolina, was living with the family.

The 1880 Union County, Tennessee census, District 8, shows Samuel Stookesberry, 67, a farmer; Sarah, 52; Sarah, 28; Jane, 26; William, 24; and Nancy, 17 years old.

 Samuel died July 10, 1892, in Union County, Tennessee. Sarah died October 27, 1905. They are both buried in Sinking Springs Cemetery in Anderson County, Tennessee.
