Sarah Wade Cypert

Sarah Wade Cypert was born March 22, 1826, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the daughter of Jesse Newton Cypert and Jemima Worthen.

Sarah married Joseph Matthew Copeland on November 1, 1843, in Wayne County. Joseph Copeland was born May 27, 1825, in Madison County, Alabama, the son of James Copeland and Catherine Gillis. James Copeland, born August 19, 1791, in South Carolina, was the son of James Copeland and Lydia (last name unknown). Catherine Gillis was the daughter of Daniel Gillis of Scotland and Nancy Patterson of North Carolina.

Joseph was a large land owner and a farmer. He served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. He was captured and after his release, joined the Union Army.

Sarah died August 20, 1893, in Wayne County. Joseph died there on June 14, 1889. They are buried in the Copeland-Cypert-Lay Cemetery in Wayne County. The cemetery is located on land that belonged to Joseph and Sarah.
