The following Sutterfield information was compiled by Errol Lewis, 6701 Rosemary, Dearborn Heights, Michigan 48127, who is a Sutterfield descendant. We have ties to the Sutterfield family in a couple of areas. Here is a brief summary of his information.
Peter Moore Sutterfield was born in 1775, in South Carolina. He married Mary Rogers on July 17, 1801, in Laurens County, South Carolina. Mary Rogers was born in 1780, in Newberry County, South Carolina. Peter died June 26, 1846, in Searcy County, Arkansas. Mary died there in 1851. Their children included Gasaway Rogers Sutterfield.
Gasaway Rogers Sutterfield was born September 26, 1806, in South Carolina. He married Mary Ann Darby on September 20, 1827, in Wayne County, Tennessee. Mary Ann Darby was born October 16, 1807, in South Carolina and died September 18, 1864, in Searcy County, Arkansas. Gasaway died at Campbell, in Searcy County, on September 18, 1866 and is buried in the Landis Cemetery. Their children included Samuel Peter Sutterfield.
Samuel Peter Sutterfield was born April 28, 1846. He married Martha Elizabeth Massey on April 6, 1865, in Searcy County, Arkansas. Martha E. Massey was born February 17, 1849, the daughter of William H. Massey and Mary Ann Hodges.
Samuel Peter and Martha raised their family in Searcy County. Martha died there in 1908 and is buried in the Landis Cemetery.
Samuel Peter then married Mrs. L. E. Bryan on May 23, 1909, in Searcy County. No children were born to this union.
Samuel Peter died September 6, 1923, in Searcy County and is buried in the Landis Cemetery.
