William Nathaniel Horton was born June 6, 1853, in Tennessee, the son of George Willis "Buckie" Horton and Hannah E. Martin.
William married Nancy Elizabeth Cromwell on February 1, 1874, in Wayne County, Tennessee. Nancy Cromwell was born May 2, 1857.
Three children of record were born to William and Nancy in Tennessee, probably in Wayne County. The family was on the move in 1880 and appears on the 1880 Lauderdale County, Alabama census. The census shows William, 27, a farmer; wife Nancy, 24; daughter, Francis, 5; son Leander, 3; and daughter Mary, 2 years old.
William and Nancy settled in Searcy County, Arkansas, about 1881. Five more children of record were born to the couple in Searcy County.
The 1900 Searcy County census shows the family living in Big Creek Township. The census shows William N. Horton, 46, married 26 years, a farmer who owned his farm; Nancy E., 43, had given birth to 10 children, 9 children were still living; James H., son, 18; Starlin, son, 12; Sterlin, son, 9; Theodore, son, 6 and Ernest R., son, 3 years old.
Nancy died February 7, 1947, in Searcy County. William died in Searcy County on August 14, 1952.
