Isaac H. "Ikey" Horton was born January 25, 1826, in Lawrence County, Tennessee, the son of Isaac Horton, Jr. and Mary "Polly" Watts.
Ikey married Sarah "Sallie" Berry about 1845, in Wayne County, Tennessee. Sallie Berry was born December 3, 1829, in Tennessee, the daughter of David Berry and Elizabeth Shipman.
About 1851, Ikey and Sallie moved their family to Searcy County, Arkansas. They settled at the place that was later to be called Canaan.
Ikey was a member of Co. D, 45th Regiment Arkansas Militia, CSA, in the Civil War. He later served 14 months as a Confederate soldier with Co. R, Arkansas Infantry under General Holmes.
Ikey and Sallie had a large family of 16 children, including a set of triplets. They raised their family at Canaan in Searcy County. Ikey died October 4, 1916, in Searcy County and is buried in Canaan Cemetery. Sallie died there on August 17, 1918, and is buried beside Ikey. One source states that at his death, Ikey had 100 grandchildren and 150 great grandchildren.
