John Lafayette Cypert was born January 6, 1810, in Jackson County, Illinois, the son of Jesse Newton Cypert and Jemima Worthen.
John married Elizabeth Neal on October 2, 1829, in Wayne County, Tennessee. Elizabeth Neal was born August 14, 1810, in Tennessee.
John was a farmer and a Baptist minister. John and Elizabeth raised their family in Wayne County.
The 1860 Wayne County census, 8th Civil District, shows John L. Cypert, 50, a Baptist clergyman with $8000 real property and $1530 personal property; Elizabeth, 49; Nancy E., 18; and Emerentha, 11 years old. Living with the family was Thomas Banks, 17, a farm laborer.
John died May 14, 1861, in Wayne County. He is buried in the Cypert-Copeland Cemetery on Indian Creek in Wayne County.
The 1870 Wayne County census shows Elizabeth living with her daughter and son-in-law Elmira Jane and Joseph George Berry. She is shown to be 60 years old.
Prior to 1880 Joseph and Elmira Berry moved their family to Clifton, Tennessee. Elizabeth is listed with them on the 1880 Wayne County census.
Elizabeth died January 10, 1885, in Wayne County, and is buried beside her husband.
