James Payton Pierce

James Payton Pierce was born April 1844, in Mississippi, the son of Lewis B. Pierce and Elizabeth "Betsy" Ann Stanfield.

James married Lucinda Thompson in 1864, at Big Springs, Stone County, Arkansas. Lucinda Thompson was born March 5, 1844, in Tennessee, the daughter of Tidings Thompson and Elender King.

James and Lucinda settled in Stone County to raise their family. The 1880 Stone County census shows the family in Locust Grove Township. The census shows James P., age 35; Lucinda, 35; William B., 14; Mary E., 12; Louis T., 10; Lethy S., 8; James H., 5; and Sarah A., 2 years old. Boarding with them is Jane Shipman, 25, born in Arkansas.

Lucinda died June 27, 1914, at Big Spring. James died there May 20, 1925. They are buried in Big Spring Cemetery.
