Permelia Catharine George was born about 1835, in Tennessee, the daughter of James Sevier George and his first wife Nancy (last name unknown).
Permelia's family moved to Searcy County, Arkansas in early 1840. Permelia appears as a female 5-9 years old on the 1840 Searcy County census.
The 1850 Izard County, Arkansas census lists Permelia C. as 15 years old.
Catharine married John Cole on June 26, 1858, in Izard County.
At this time we know nothing about John Cole. Nor do we know where he and Catharine lived. Census indicates that their first child was born about 1862, in Arkansas. Their second child was born in 1863, but some records say she was born in Arkansas and others say in Tennessee. We have not found John and Catharine on the 1860 or 1870 census.
A descendant of John and Catharine Cole says that after the Civil War, John left Catharine and their two children and rode away with another woman. This has not been confirmed, however.
Catharine appears on the 1880 Stone County, Arkansas, census in Sylamore Township. The census listed her as 45 and widowed. With her on the census were her two daughters, Josephine, age 18, and Sarah D., age 16, and her 8 year old niece, Frances Adeline Catherine Holden, daughter of her sister, Martha Caroline George Holden.
Catharine was listed in the Letter of Administration issued December 6, 1887 after her father's death. She was listed as residing in Stone County.
We have been told that Catharine died about 1890 in Stone County and is buried in Big Spring Cemetery between Timbo and Newnata, in Stone County.
