Johann (Hans) Peter Wampfler

Our 6th great-grandfather Johann (Hans) Peter Wampfler was born 1701, in Sparsbach, Alsace.    He was the son of Christian Wampfler and Magdelena Gruner.   

Peter married our 6th great-grandmother Anna Veronica Lung in 1719, at Zollingen, Alsace.    Anna Veronica Lung was born 1703, in Zollingen, the daughter of Jacob Lung and Elizabeth Wildermuth.

In 1741, Peter immigrated to America from Rotterdam, Holland, with his family on the ship "Lydia", landing at the Port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 29, 1741.    The Ancestry website shows the following in their Passenger and Immigration List: Name: Hans Peter Wampffler; Year: 1741; Age: 40; Place: Pennsylvania; Family Members: Wife Wampffler, Veronica; Child Wampffler, Anna Magdalena; Child Wampffler, Hans Peter; Child Wampffler, Michael; Child Wampffler, Anna Barbara; Child Wampffler, Anna Fronica; Child Wampffler, Georg; Child Wampffler, Anna Catharina; Child Wampffler, Anna.    The ship records show: Hans Peter Wampfler, 40, a linen weaver; Hans Peter Wampfler, Jr., 18; and  Hans Michael Wampfler, 16 years old.     Wamplers in America states Hans Peter signed his name as "Wampfler" on the ship passenger list.    The voyage took about 3 months.    Sailing with the family was Hans Peter's nephew, Johannes Mettauer, who was 26 years of age at the time. 

After arriving in America, Peter settled his family on 200 acres of land he purchased in the Swiss and German community in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.   

Peter lived less than 8 years after arriving in America.    He died intestate in 1749, in Lebanon Township of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.    On April 24, 1749, Peter's widow, Veronica, made application to be administratrix of his estate.    Her sons, Michael and Peter, signed her application bond.    Their names were spelled "Wampler" on the application.    The personal estate of Peter Wampler was valued at 184 British pounds and 13 shillings.    The inventory of Peter Wampfler's estate included, besides household items, bedding, clothing and tools, three hives of bees, three heifers, two cows with calves, three horses, three sheep and seven hogs.

1. Anna Magdalena Wampler was born 1720, in Hinsingen, Alsace.    She was christened June 7, 1720, at Keskastel.     Anna Magdalena was about 21 years old when her family immigrated to America.    She married Mathias Boger on January 7, 1746, in Hill Lutheran Church, in Annville, Lancaster Co, PA.    Mathias Boger was born in 1716, in southern Germany, the son of John Paul Boger and Anna Eva (last name unknown).    Mathias died March 27, 1784 in Lebanon Township of Lancaster Co.    Magdalena died there in 1789.    Their children included: (1) Christian Boger, b. 1747; (2) Maria Elizabeth Boger, b. 1752; m. Lucas Shally; (3) Valentine Boger, b. 1758; (4) Anna Magdalena Boger, b. 1762; m. William Bohr; and (5) Mathias Boger, b. 1765.

2. Hans Peter Wampler, Jr. was born 1722, in Hinsingen, Alsace.

3. Hans Michael Wampler was born 1724, in Hinsingen, Alsace.    (our line)

4. Anna Veronica Wampler was born November 5, 1726, in Hinsingen, Alsace.    She was christened on November 7, 1726, at Altweiler, Alsace.     Anna Veronica was about 15 years old when her family immigrated to America.   She married Johann Jacob Brennelsen on January 13, 1746, in Hill Lutheran Church, in Annville, Lancaster Co, PA.    John Brennelsen was the son of Hans Valentine Brennelsen and Margaretha (last name unknown).     Veronica and her husband left the Evangelical Lutheran Church and joined the Dunkards (Church of the Brethren).    Their children included: (1) Johann Michael Brennelsen, b. 1747; (2) Johann Jacob Brennelsen, b. 1749; and (3) Anna Elizabeth Brennelsen, b. 1750.

5. Anna Barbara Wampler was born 1729, in Hinsingen, Alsace, and christened July 24, 1729, at Altweiler, Alsace.    She was about 12 years old when her family immigrated to America.

6.  Anna Elizabeth Wampler was born 1832, in Hinsingen, Alsace and christened December 3, 1732, in Hinsingen.    Anna Elizabeth died December 26, 1732, in Hinsingen.

7. Anna Catherine Wampler was born 1734, in Hinsingen, Alsace and christened December 21, 1734, in Hinsingen.    Anna Catherine died January 9, 1735, in Hinsingen.  

8. Hans Georg Wampler was born 1736, in Hinsingen, Alsace.    Georg was only about 5 years of age when his family immigrated to America.   Georg married Elizabeth Steffey on August 5, 1758, in Lancaster Co, PA.    Elizabeth was born December 7, 1738, in Lancaster Co, PA, the daughter of Ulrich Steffey and Anna Marie Schirmer.    Elizabeth died February 16, 1807, in Wythe Co, VA.    Georg died there on May 10, 1815.   They are buried in St. Paul Church Cemetery, Wythe Co, VA.    Children (all born in Lancaster Co, PA) included: (1) Maria Wampler, b. 1759; d. 1760, Lancaster Co, PA;   (2) John Wampler, b. 1761; d. 1837, Wythe Co, VA; m.
