Reason "Reece" Barnes

(I have not researched the Barnes family, but am sharing the information I have regarding this family.)

Reason "Reece" Barnes was born July 1864, in Missouri.  He was the son of Joshua David Barnes and Nancy Elizabeth Riley

Joshua David Barnes, born October 14, 1838, in Kentucky; died May 24, 1915, in Conway County, Arkansas; buried in Old Hickory Cemetery, in Conway County, was the son of Zachariah Barnes (b. 1798, MD; d. 1871, MO) and Nancy Ray (b. 1793, KY; d. 1870-1880).   Nancy Riley was born October 19, 1839, in Kentucky; died March 17, 1914, in Conway County and is buried in Old Hickory Cemetery.

Reece Barnes married Susan E. Treadway on January 14, 1891, in Conway County, Arkansas. Susan Treadway was born October 1873, in Tennessee.

The 1900 Conway County census, Gregory Township, shows Reese Barnes, 35, born July 1864, in Missouri, married 9 years, a farmer who rented his farm; Susan E., wife, 26, born October 1873, in Tennessee, married 9 years, had given birth to 4 children, 2 children still living; Mary E., daughter, 8, born February 1892; and Rosa M., daughter, 5, born February 1895.

The 1910 Conway County census shows the family living on the Morrilton Road in Gregory Township, near Hattieville. The census shows Reese Barnes, 46, married 19 years, a farmer who rented his farm; Susan E., wife, 36, had given birth to 7 children, 5 children still living; Mary E., daughter, 18; Rosy M., daughter, 15; Henry L. son, 6; Bessie E., daughter, 4; and Mattie T., daughter, 1 year and 6 months old.

In October 1918, Reese and Susan's daughter, Rosa and her husband George Wyley Cargile died in the worst flu epicemic in the history of Conway County.  Reese and Susan took their two children, Lillie May Cargile, born January 8, 1912 and Thurman Cargile, born January 18, 1914, to raise. 

The 1920 Conway County census, shows the family still on the Hattieville and Morrilton Road, in Gregory Township. The census shows Reese Barnes, 55, a farmer; Susan E., wife, 46; Henry L., son, 16; Bessie E., daughter, 13; Mattie T., daughter, 11; Ruby A., daughter, 7; Lillie M. Cargile, granddaughter, 7; and Thruman L. Cargile, grandson, 5 years old. Boarding with the family was Wesley Roach, 17, a farm laborer, born in Arkansas.

Reece died July 18, 1943, in Conway County. Susan died there in 1947. They are buried in Friendship Cemetery near Solgohachia, in Conway County.
