Robert Stooksberry, Jr. was born about 1815, in Anderson County, Tennessee, the son of Robert "Squire" Stooksberry and Hannah Horton.
Robert married Jane "Jennie" Sharp on August 5, 1846, in Campbell County, Tennessee. Jennie Sharp was born January 3, 1825, in Tennessee.
The 1850 Anderson County, Tennessee census shows Robert Stuksbury, 35, a farmer with $600 real property; Jane, 25; Francis, 3; and Nelly, 1 year old. Living with the family was Madison Helton, 9; John Cornett, 24; Milly Cornett, 20; and Saberiny, Cornett, 1 year old. Living next door on one side were Robert's parents and on the other side was his brother Alfred and his family. Several other siblings were living near by.
Prior to 1860 the family moved from Anderson County to Union County, Tennessee. The 1860 Union County census shows the family living with James and Jane Rutherford and their children. The census shows James Rutherford, 25, day laborer, $25 personal property; Jane, 22; Martha, 3; William F., 10 months; Robert Stukesbury, 45, farmer, $2000 real property, $500 personal property; Jane stukesbury, 35; Francis Stukesbury, 12; Nelly Stukesbury, 10; Hanner Stukesbury, 8; and Isaac Stukesbury, 5 years old.
Robert served in the Civil War. He moved his family to Wayne County, Tennessee, after the end of the war.
Robert died November 10, 1879 in Wayne County and is buried in Sims Cemetery in Wayne County.
The 1880 Wayne County census, District 8, shows Jane Stooksberry, widowed, 55; Ellen, 31; Samuel, 18, a farmer; and William, 16, a farmer. Living with the family was Jane's son Isaac, 24, a farmer and his wife, Sarah M., 18 years old.
Jennie died September 24, 1894 in Wayne County and is buried in Sims Cemetery with Robert.
