John David Abel was born December 27, 1780, in Montgomery (now Wythe) County, Virginia. He was the son of Lewis Henry Abel and Elizabeth Wampler. His name appears on the baptismal records of Kimberling Lutheran Church in Wythe County. Martin Kimberling and his wife Elizabeth were witnesses to the baptism.
David married Ann Harner about 1800, probably in Wythe County, Virginia. Ann Harner was born about 1780 in North Carolina, the daughter of Christopher Harner and Malinda DeLaney.
Prior to 1812, David moved his family to Tennessee, settling in Knox County. The family remained in Knox County until about 1820, at which time they moved to Roane County, Tennessee.
The 1830 Roane County, Tennessee census shows David Able, a male 40-49; one male 15-19; one male 10-14; one male 5-9; one female (Ann) 40-49; two females 15-19; one female 5-9; and one female under 5 years old. Also listed on the census is one male 70-79 years old, who was probably Ann's father. Living near-by was their son John Abel (spelled Able) and his family.
Ann died prior to 1839, in Roane County.
David married Lenley A. A. Huddleston on February 11, 1839, in Roane County. Lenley was born about 1806, in North Carolina, according to census.
The 1840 Roane County, Tennessee census shows David Abel, a male 50-59; one male 15-19; one male under 5; and one female (Lenley) 30-39 years old.
David moved to Bledsoe County, Tennessee prior to 1850. The 1850 Bledsoe County census shows David Abel, 69, real property valued at $300 real prop, born in Virginia; and Lenly A. A., 44, born in North Carolina.
John died prior to 1860, in Bledsoe County, Tennessee.
