Mary Jane George was born about 1831, in Tennessee. She was the eldest child of James Sevier George and Nancy (last name unknown).
Mary Jane married Peter Avey about 1849, probably in Izard County, Arkansas. Peter Avey was born about 1829, in Kentucky, the son of John Wolf Cornstalk Avey II (born about 1799, possibly in SC; died Stone Co, AR) and Nancy Jane (last name unknown) (born about 1804, in TN; d. Jan 4, 1880, Searcy Co, AR).
Peter and Mary Jane moved to Marion County, Arkansas, after their marriage. They appear on the 1850 Marion County census, with their one year old son, James. Living next to Peter's family were the families of John Avey, Jr. and Andrew Avey, who were Peter's brothers, and John Avey, who was Peter's father. Peter is shown to have real estate valued at $150. The census is dated December 9, 1850.
Mary Jane died in childbirth with their daughter Delila about 1856.
Peter married Sarah (last name unknown) about 1856 - 1857. Sarah was born about 1839, in Tennessee, according to census.
Peter and Sarah appear on the 1860 Searcy County, Arkansas, census in Buffalo Township. With them are Peter's children, James, age 10; Nancy, age 8 and Delila, age 4. (The Letter of Administration that was issued December 6, 1887, in Stone County, after the death of Mary Jane's father, mentions "the heirs of Mary Jane Avey".) Peter and his second wife, Sarah, had no children.
Peter died between 1861 and 1869.
Peter and Mary Jane's children James and Nancy both married in early 1870. The 1870 Izard County census shows their daughter Delila living with her brother James and his family. She was listed as 10 years old on the census.
