Peter Gales Horton was born December 28, 1833, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the son of Nathaniel Horton and Malinda Atkinson.
Peter Gales married Sarah Margaret Ayers, in Tennessee. Margaret Ayers was born November 16, 1837, in Tennessee.
Peter Gales is listed as "John" on the 1850 Wayne County, Tennessee census.
The 1860 Wayne County census shows P. G. Horton, 25, a farmer with $350 personal property; Margaret, 23; William, 2; and Benjamin, 2 months old.
On December 6, 1869, Peter Gales' mother, Malinda Horton, signed a deed giving him and John Lay all the property, both real and personal, that she owned in exchange for them taking "good care" of her while she lived.
The 1870 Wayne County census, 8th Civil District, shows P. G. Horton, 35, a farmer with $150 real property and $375 personal property; Margret S., 33; William N., 12; Benjamin S., 10; James, 8; Malinda E., 6, born in Illinois; and Mary; 2 years old.
Peter Gales died August 15, 1894, in Wayne County. He is buried in the Isaac Horton Cemetery. Margaret died December 28, 1914.
