Thomas Sypert was born in 1746, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the son of Francis Scypeart and Charity Townsend.
Between about 1751 and 1754, Francis Scypeart moved his family to North Carolina. They settled in Orange County. Later that part of Orange County became Chatham County.
Thomas married Mary Lassater about 1784, in Chatham County, North Carolina. Mary Lassater was born about 1764, in North Carolina, the daughter of William Lassater.
When Thomas' father died about 1788, Thomas received part of his land. Thomas' family appears on the 1790 Chatham County, North Carolina, census. His name is spelled Cypruss on the census.
When Thomas' father died, about 1788, his estate was divided among the children. In 1789, Thomas' brother Francis had bought their brother Robert's portion of the estate. About 1795, Thomas bought his brother Francis' property, which caused him to be owner of all his father's estate land.
About 1796, Thomas moved his family to Wilson County, Tennessee.
Mary died in Wilson County prior to 1830. After Mary's death, Thomas married Sally (last name unknown), who is mentioned in his will. Thomas died about 1831, in Wilson County. Sally died there about 1833.
The will of Thomas Sypert is recorded in Wilson County, Tennessee, Will Book 1830-31, page 191. He names his wife, Sally; left his son Stephen one hundred dollars; refers to his daughter Ann Wherry; and names sons William L. and Thomas as Executors. The will is dated January 5, 1831. It is signed Thomas (his X mark) Sypert. The will was proved in 1831.
