Thomas Jefferson Crow

Thomas Jefferson "Jeff" Crow was born August 2, 1861, near Cave City, in Independence County, Arkansas, the son of John Henry Crow and Sarah Jane Rollins.

Jeff married Arena Minerva "Renie" Green on February 26, 1879. Renie Green was born December 25, 1859, in Arkansas, the daughter of George Washington Green and Martha Jane Claunch. George Washington Green was born in Franklin County, Alabama. He died December 1887, in Cleburne County, Arkansas. Martha Jane Claunch died December 11, 1895, in Stone County, Arkansas.

Jeff and Renie settled in Barren Township, near Cave City, in Independence County, after their marriage. Jeff was a farmer.

Jeff and Renie appear on the 1880 Independence County census, in Barren Township. Listed with them on the census is their 5 month old son, William F. Crow.

Between 1893 and 1898, Jeff moved his family near Scotland, in Van Buren County, Arkansas. His family appears on the 1900 Van Buren County census, in Craig Township, near Scotland. Jeff's date of birth is listed on the census as August 1861. Renie's date of birth is listed on the census as December 1860. Listed with Jeff and Renie are their children John W., age 17; Sarah J., age 14; Effie, age 11; James H., age 7; and Christopher J., age 1 year.

Jeff and Renie appear on the 1910 Van Buren County census, still living in Craig Township, near Scotland. The census shows that Renie had given birth to seven children at that time, but only six were still living. Listed with Jeff and Renie were their children John W., age 27; Sarah J., age 24; Effie L., age 21; James H., age 17; and Christopher J., age 11.

The 1930 Van Buren County census, Craig Township, shows Thomas J. Crow, 68, first married at 18, owned his farm; Arena M., 70, first married at 20; Effie A. L. C., 41, single; and John W., 47, single, an insurance agent. Living next door was son Christopher J. Crow, 31, who rented his farm; and his wife, Clara, 34 years old. Living near by was their daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and John Lentz and family.

Renie died May 15, 1939, near Scotland, and is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, near Scotland, in Van Buren County. Jeff died there July 7, 1948, and is buried beside Renie in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
