Amanda Jane "Mandy" Branham

Amanda Jane "Mandy" Branham was born August 27, 1876, at Leslie, in Searcy County, Arkansas.     She was the daughter of James Lacey Branham and Eliza Jane Osborn.

Mandy married Andrew "Andy" Daley on September 7, 1893, in Searcy County.     Mandy was only 16 years old at the time, and her father had to write a letter of consent for her to marry.    (One researcher listed him as Robert Andrew Daley.    It is likely that John or Robert was part of his name, or was the name of his father.     No one in Mandy's immediate family was named John or Robert, yet Mandy and Andrew named their son John Robert.)

  Andrew Daley was born May 1870, in Arkansas, according to the 1900 census.     We did not locate him in 1870 or 1880.     The only record we have of Andrew, besides his marriage record, is the 1900 census.

The 1900 Pope County, Arkansas census, Lee Township, shows Andy Daley, 30, born May 1870, in Arkansas, father and mother born in Arkansas, a farmer who rented his farm, married 7 years; Mandy, wife, 22, born August 1877, in Arkansas, married seven years, had given birth to 2 children, 2 children still living; Mary, daughter, 3, born April 1894, in Arkansas; and John, son, 1, born June 1898, in Arkansas.

  Andy Daley died about 1905, possibly near Atkins, in Pope County, Arkansas.

Mandy married her first cousin William Franklin Gloden on July 31, 1906, at Memphis, Tennessee.     Because Mandy and Frank were first cousins, they had to go to Tennessee to marry because the State of Arkansas would not allow first cousins to marry.

   Frank Gloden was born May 7, 1869, in Decatur, Illinois.    He was the son of Michael Gloden and Lucinda Adaline Branham.     Frank's mother, Lucinda, and Mandy's father, James Lacey, were brother and sister.

The 1910 Searcy County, Arkansas census shows the family living in Wiley's Cove Township near Leslie.    The census shows William Gloden, 43, married twice, married three years this marriage, working as a day laborer; Mandy J., 31, married twice, married three years this marriage, had given birth to 4 children, 3 children were still living; Gertie, daughter (Frank's daughter from first marriage), 14; Jessie M., son (Frank's son from first marriage), 11; Grace, daughter, 8 months old; and John Daily, son (Mandy's son from first marriage), 12 years old.     Living not far from Frank and Mandy were Frank Dominek Gloden and his wife, Jane H. (Branham) Gloden.     (Jane was an aunt to both Frank and Mandy.    She was a sister to James Lacey and Lucinda (Branham) Gloden.     Frank D. Gloden was a brother to Michael Gloden, and an uncle to Frank.     Frank was probably named for his uncle.)

  The 1920 Searcy County, Wiley's Cove Township, census shows William Gloden, 50, a laborer in a barrel factory at Leslie, owned his property; Mandy, wife, 41; Jessey, son, 21, laborer; Lillian, daughter, 10; Frank, son, 5; John Robert Daley, step-son, 34, railroad laborer; Will Branham, son-in-law, 34, railroad tie loader; Gertie Branham, daughter, 23; Roy Branham, grandson, 7; Velma Branham, granddaughter, 5; Della Branham, granddaughter, 2 years and 11 months old.

The 1930 Searcy County census, Wiley's Cove Township, shows William F. Gloden, 60, married first at age 21, a farmer; Manda J., wife, 48, married first at 17; Frank, son, 16; and Lillian Campbell, daughter, 20, married at 19 years of age.

  Frank died April 25, 1934, at Leslie, and is buried in the Leslie Cemetery in an unmarked grave.

The 1940 Scott County, Arkansas census shows Mandy Gloden, mother, age 61, widow, living in the home of her son Frank G. Gloden, 25, family lived in same place Apr 1, 1935, a farmer; Mamie E., wife, 22; and Franklin M., daughter, 7-months old.  

Mandy died April 15, 1967, at Marshall, in Searcy County, and is buried in the Mainord (Rambo) Cemetery near Leslie.
