John William Cypert was born about 1790, in New Hope, Chatham County, North Carolina, the son of Francis Cypert II and Abigail Johnson.
John married Nancy Anderson about 1811, in Tennessee. Nancy Anderson was born 1790, in North Carolina, the daughter of James Anderson, who came to America from Ireland or Sweden before the Revolutionary War. The Anderson family settled in Wayne County, Tennessee, prior to 1818. Nancy's brother, James B. Anderson, married John's cousin, Mary Scypert, daughter of Robert Scypert and Isabella (last name unknown).
John and Nancy settled in Wayne County, Tennessee, to raise their family. About 1852, John and Nancy moved to Arkansas.
Nancy was tortured to death in Searcy County, Arkansas, in 1862, during the Civil War, by bushwhackers who were looking for money. For the story, click here. John died in 1864, in Searcy County.
