Franklin David Bridgman

Franklin David Bridgman was born November 18, 1838, in Campbell County, Tennessee, the son of Isaac Bridgman and Jane Butler.

About 1849, Franklin's family moved from Campbell County, Tennessee, to Walker County, Georgia.

The 1850 Walker County, Georgia census, Chickamauga Township, shows 10 year old Franklin at home with his parents and siblings.

Franklin's father, Isaac, died August 1859. The 1860 Walker County census, Rock Spring Post Office, shows 21 year old Franklin with his widowed mother and siblings.

Franklin married Susan Barron about 1861, in Walker County. Susan Barron was born April 13, 1843, the daughter of Calvin Riley Barron (b. 1825,TN; d. 1890, GA) and Nancy Perkins (b. 1826, TN; d. 1887, GA).

We have been told that after his mother's death in October 1862, Franklin David and Susan remained on the family farm with his younger siblings for a time.

I have been told that Franklin served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. He was taken captive by the Union Army and held as a POW at Chattanooga, Tennessee.

After the war, Franklin went back to farming.  He and Susan had five children.

Susan died April 19, 1874 and is buried in the Barron Cemetery in Walker County.

Franklin married Margaret "Mary" Ann Hall on March 28, 1875, in Catoosa County, Georgia. Margaret Hall was born July 1836, in Georgia, the daughter of Samuel Hall and Anne Bowles.

The 1880 Walker County census, Peavine Township, shows Franklin Bridgman, 41, a farmer; Margaret, wife, 35; William, son, 18; James E., son, 15; Isaac G., son, 12; Creed, son, 10; Franklin, son, 8; Susan J., daughter, 5; Annie A., daughter, 3; and Thomas S., son, 10 months old. Living with the family were Franklin's sisters, Jane Bridgman, 23 and Susan Bridgman, 21.

Franklin David Bridgman died February 1, 1889.
