Jesse Newton Cypert was born June 1, 1784, in Chatham County, North Carolina, the son of Francis Cypert II and Abigail Johnson.
Jesse married Jemima Worthen on February 14, 1805, in Warren County, Tennessee. Jemima Worthen was born about 1784, the daughter of James Worthen.
In 1808, Jesse moved his family, along with his father-in-law, to what is today Jackson County, Illinois, where they remained until about 1812. Following the death of James Worthen in 1812, the family moved back to Tennessee.
Jesse served in Captain Williamson's Company of the Tennessee Volunteers in the War of 1812. He was at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend and the Battle of New Orleans.
After his military discharge and return to Tennessee, Jesse moved his family, along with his parents and siblings, to new lands opened to settlers by the Chickasaw Session of 1816. They settled on Indian Creek and began to acquire land. Jesse was a farmer. In 1817, Jesse was appointed as one of the commissioners to set up and organize Wayne County, Tennessee. Governor McMinn appointed Jesse to be a member of the first County Court, and he later served as Sheriff and Justice of the Peace in Wayne County.
Jemima died in 1853, in Wayne County. She is buried in the Cypert- Copeland-Lay Cemetery on Indian Creek, in Wayne County.
Jesse died June 1856, in Wayne County, and is buried in the Cypert-Copeland-Lay Cemetery. Both Jemima and Jesse are buried in covered rock tombs.
